If Guatemala City is in your near future, these spots are essential to your authentic Guatemalan cuisine experience.
Fine Dining: Restaurante Kacao
Kacao is located in the heart of the city and does not disappoint. The aesthetically pleasing atmosphere includes vibrant colors, decorative greenery, and Mayan decor. Even though it's located in the city, it's so secluded and consuming that you may forget about the noisy outside world.
The food is incredible, and the staff is warm, friendly, and unbelievably accommodating. The service was exceptional! They offer an English-only menu, as well, for those of us who didn't brush up on our Spanish 2 lessons before the trip.
The best feature is the live music. The band knows all the hits and takes song requests from the guests. We asked for a little Selena followed by Michael Jackson.
If you're looking for an authentic Guatemalan meal with a fine dining experience at reasonable prices, Kacao is where you need to be.

Quick Bites: Patsy
Patsy has several locations all over Guatemala City. It's great for grabbing something quick and easy, without losing the local taste. They offer the real deal with a mix of American staples like a burger and fries or fried chicken. The black bean soup is to die for, and the rolled tacos aren't too shabby either.
Their specialty, however, is dessert. Oh, the desserts! Cakes, tiramisus, ice creams, cappuccinos, and the list goes on and on. Yummy!
The best part? They deliver! So, if you had a little too much Botran or Zacapa (local rum) the night before and need a hangover fix, call your nearest Patsy for a quick drop-off.
No fancy tablecloths or extravagant decor, but when in doubt or running out of options, head to Patsy.
